THE CREST
The crest is the top of the horse's neck. It has a long muscle that contracts to raise the head, working with the other muscles in the neck.
The mane runs along the top of the crest.
In stallions and some specific breeds, the crest gets quite large and thick. This is called "cresty".
If the crest is weak in appearance the neck is often called a "ewe" neck. Like the neck of a sheep.
When looking to buy a horse, you should look for one who has a well balanced build, a well shaped head and neck, straight legs with no joint injuries (look for swelling and how it moves), and good feet, clear eyes, strong teeth, straight back.
Actually, there is a lot more you should look for, but that is an entire other article!
