Hunter's Silly Valentine
Sabino - Tobiano Pinto

My Silly Valentine.....

Valentine loves her food!

Shadow and Valentine have been friends since they met. She had one foal from Shadow, MoonBaby, before he was gelded. They hang out together all the time, grazing and laying in the sun.

All of Valentine's foals roan out. Although she doesn't have the typical Sabino blaze or bald face, she has other sabino characteristics: roan color, high white stocking in back, speckled spots on flanks, neck. The white splashes of color coming down over her back and neck show the Tobiano gene. Valentine has consistantly thrown pinto foals, either tobiano or sabino/tobiano (like Tauren). Our other Sabino ponies are Cotton, Misty and Tiger who carries the sabino color gene but does not express it. For sabino links, visit Cotton's page.

FOR THE KIDS - ABOUT VALENTINE - Valentine is one of our Pinto mares. She isn't a big horse, though, she is a pony at just 11 hh.. She is bigger than Shadow. Valentine and I are best friends and we go riding together. She is a mother and I am a mother, too. She is very strong. Valentine is grey and white pinto. She had a baby named PJ. She was Valentine's second baby. Her first one was a boy. His name is Moonbaby. We sold him to a nice family with 3 children. Valentine likes to eat! She eats hay, grass, grain, apples...but her favorite is cookies! I don't let her have them very often because she can get cavities just like YOU! Valentine likes to go riding. I put my western saddle on her and we go all over the neighborhoods around our house. Sometimes I stop and give children rides in their yards and talk to them about school, life, trying to do good. Of course, I always get their parents permission first. All horses and ponies lick salt blocks and drink water. They like to stand under a shady tree on a hot day. Valentine is my favorite, I love her very much. I don't care that she isn't a big horse, she is still the best! Valentine is 6 years old. She is 11.2 hands tall (a hand is a way of measuring horses - each hand is 4 inches) and won't get any bigger because she is a pony.

Some of Valentine's lineage is unknown, however, we know the  stallion, because we bought him after we bought Valentine. His name was Red and he was an "old style" shetland pony. Valentine's dam is a 12 hand pinto mare. We are sure she has Hackney pony in her because she is gaited. Being gaited means she has a very smooth gait that is in between a trot and a lope. It is easy to sit and comfortable. It is pretty fast, too.

He was a brown color with a black mane and tail, pinto spots (white) and two blue eyes! But now he is getting a lot of white hairs and turning roan. He has a fine, beautiful head, long legs and big eyes. He will be about 13.3 hands when he is grown.

Val's second baby, her father was Red. She is 2 now. P.J. was donated to Personal Ponies, Ltd. last year. She has been living in Fletcher, OK with her caretaker Joyce. Well, I just received an email from Joyce on 11/6/99 that P.J. has a new foster family! Congrats P.J. :-)

This is Moon Baby

Moon Baby was Valentine's first foal. His father is Shadow. He was so cute and we were so excited to have him that we used to hold him on our laps. BUT, when he got bigger he still wanted to sit on our lap! That isn't good! So now we don't hold the baby horses any more, but we still love them just as much!
